What's Eating Gilbert Grape

When I was in high school, Leonardo Di Caprio was huge. Girls loved him, and many were a little obsessed with him. I was never a big Leo fan...and I still don't see why girls think he is so "hot". But after seeing this film several years ago, I realized that Leo is an incredible actor (and he was only 19 when it was made!). Over the years, I have seen several films that display Leo's talent (including Romeo and Juliet, The Man in the Iron Mask, Gangs of New York and The Departed, to name a few). When I watched What's Eating Gilbert Grape again recently with my hubby (who had never seen it before), his greatness was solidified in my mind. In fact, after doing a little research, I realized that Leonardo Di Caprio was robbed at the Oscars...he was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for this film, and the award was given to Tommy Lee Jones for the Fugitive (also a great movie, but NOT as good as Di Caprio in this role). Johnny Depp is also incredible, showing his versatility as an actor as well. These two are at their very best in this poignant film, and I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind a tear jerker. 5 pigs.
