The Manchurian Candidate

As you can tell by the cover, this is the 1962 version of this film, starring Frank Sinatra and Angela Lansbury. I have not yet seen the 2004 version with Denzel Washington, but if it is anything like this movie then I am sure it is fabulous. This film has the perfect combination of intriguing writing, wonderfully developed plot, and superb acting. The plot was fascinating and kept my brain buzzing the entire time. The 1960's produced very few films that I have really enjoyed. It was a time of change for the film industry...color was becoming a viable medium, Hitchcock was coming to the end of his venerable career, James Bond was just starting to become a household name, and Walt Disney produced his last feature film. There were some incredible films, but for the most part it was a disappointing decade. That is one of the reasons why I was so impressed with this film. It kept me interested from the first line to the last. I am giving this film 4 1/2 pigs, for it's clever writing and masterfully developed plot...and I would recommend it to anyone (even if you don't like black and white films).
