Pretty Woman

I remember when this movie came out and the scandal that it caused. I also remember thinking that I would never watch it because it was presented to me as being so "dirty". Every time I watch it now, I have to laugh...Julia Roberts is one of the most respectable actresses out there (in my opinion) and even seeing her in this role does not make me think any different. The profane language is minimal (compared to the standards today), there is no nudity, no drug use, and very little adult content (of course, there has to be some...it's about a prostitute). This film is the perfect example of how our film standards have changed in the past 20 years...if it was made today, it would never be rated R. Anyway, this film is a modern Cinderella story that follows a girl who sells herself for money as she finds her "knight in shining armor". The scenes are classic, the lines are unforgettable, and the acting is fun and enchanting. Julia was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, but lost to Kathy Bates in Misery. Here's a little bit of trivia...apparently Molly Ringwald was offered the role of Vivian. That would have been awful! There is no way this movie would have the lasting effects it has if Molly had been the star...she is so annoying! This is another film that I can watch over and over again...but I will be giving it 4 pigs.
