Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I have a confession...I fell asleep while watching this film. Calm down, all you die hard Monty Python fans...this was not the first time I had seen this movie, and I was really tired. I know, there is no excuse for falling asleep during such a hilarious film. My dad loved all things Python while I was growing up, but I did not have my first experience with this movie until I was in college. This is one of those movies that is so ridiculous that it becomes hilarious. Here is a little history about the film...Monty Python is the original "Saturday Night Live". It started out as a sketch comedy show on the BBC that was written and performed by the 6 original cast members, and the early SNL writers admit that they were greatly influenced by Monty Python. This film was the groups first real feature length film (their first film was really a compilation of sketches from their show). The Holy Grail consisted of entirely new material that had never been tested, but was an instant hit and has become a cult classic. It follows King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table on their quest for the Holy Grail...but it definitely does not follow the traditional story. Each of the original cast members play several roles in this film, showcasing their talents. Eric Idle, one of the cast members, used the ideas from this film to create the current Broadway sensation Spamalot. This film has so many different layers of comedy, and the satire is remarkably funny...but might go over some heads. However, due to it's classic comedy, I have to give it 5 pigs.
